Anger Management For Parents - Their Influence On Their Children

from: Marie Kearney Gordon Guest Writer

How many times have you been shopping, only to see a mother shouting at her child just because she wants a candy bar! This is a big No No for parents, because this is a very bad illustration to be shown to the child, and effective anger management is really therefore a must for parents.

They are the ones who tend to be always on the losing side becauseof their tempers, and yes, they are usually stressed out, which is why they can easily get irritated, but having said that, they should know how to manage their anger, especially where their children are concerned.

Parents should be the main role models for their children, which, in everyday practical terms means that they must set the correct examples, so that the children will follow these good examples. In cases where parents are constantly bickering, they will not only be sending bad representations to the children. but they will also be creating what is likely to be a traumatic experience for them.

Parents who tend to shout at their children for the slightest of reasons, not only send the wrong message to the children, but even more so, a the poor children are very likely to develop feelings of real insecurity in their lives!

Typically, a calm house provides a happy environment, and when we refer to a calm house, we mean to a stress free home, where the members of the family mainly exude nothing but good behavior, love, and of course care for the children.

Quarrels or disagreements between parents are perfectly normal, but they must not let the children witness them if at all possible. They can continue the argument when they go to bed, and when they far from the sight and hearing of the children.

How should parents teach their children the proper control of anger management, particularly as nothing can be taught without the proper application of by themselves, especially as they are at all times setting an example to their children whether they like it or not! Therefore it is totally necessary that anger management for parents must at first be known and mastered by them.

This is especially so as most parents nowadays are working in a fast paced corporate world where stress is inevitable, and actually this factor is probably the primary reason for the flaring up of the temper of the parents.

However parents should realize that both the stress and problems which they have at their work, must be left behind in the office, so that when they arrive home, they will show a happy and calm exterior to their children, although in practise, this can be quite a difficult task to achieve all the time!

Children always expect their parents to be on hand when they need them, so you should be ready to give in to their expectations within reason. You most certainly do not want to see a day when you wake up with children who are already rebellious nuisances, and hard to control.

Setting a good example therfore is very useful in whatever case, because when the parents show signs of irritable behaviour, the children tend to adopt it, and over and above this, scientific studies tell us of the dangers which anger can bring to your health.

Anger is said to cause atherosclerosis, which is the build up of the plaque which tends to be present in the arteries, and which can eventually lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, heart attacks, worst of all, premature death.

Likewise, during the height of a bout of anger, your blood pressure and adrenaline levels escalate, which adds yet another risk factor to the parents because of their everyday exposure to stress.

So While anger could perhaps kill you in no time all, you should also be aware that you could be prone to the possibility of killing someone, simply because of your anger. You could even end up in prison because you have inflicted harm on other people, all simply because you have an uncontrolled anger.

Every parent therefore needs to have enough knowledge about anger management techniques in order to let their children live a normal life. Do not allow yourselves to always be arguing behind their backs, but rather make sure that you are a friend to them and set them a good example.
