Everyone experiences anger, which makes it a common emotion among the whole population of the earth, but the level of anger experienced may not be the same from person to person. Some wil feel more angry than others about the same situation, and equally, everyone will have different ways of how to handle their anger.
Some people will be able to resort to more constructive ways on how to release their anger, but when anger starts to become so destructive and so frequent that you could actually inflict harm on yourself as well as others, then it really might be the right time to seek professional help!
You need to be able to identify if you are really going over the top when you feel angry, and you also need to assess how well you have succeeded or otherwise, on any other self-help techniques which you may have been doing on a regular basis.
Seeking help then would be a good option if every other form of self help has failed, and you no longer see yourself as effective in trying to handle your anger on your own. If you are not sure about how well you can handle your anger yourself therefore, try and reassess yourself with the following signs:-
You easily lose your self-control at any given situation!
You can easily become frustrated and angry when you are waiting in a queue!.
You start to actually hate yourself if something did not go according to your expectations, or you failed to take control over your own situation, and you find it difficult to forgive other people who have caused you pain or hurt!
You spend too much time allowing the anger inside you to grow, and being angry at the people who have caused you the anger, which is a vicious circle!
You get extremely angry when you see that people cannot do things properly, by your standards anyway, or you deem them to be incompetent or clumsy, and very possibly, prone to making frequent errors and mistakes in your judgement!
You call other people stupid, or dumb, when they cannot do things right!
You often get into heated arguments with other people, including strangers, your friends, and even your loved ones!
You still think of the past experiences, and especially the people that have been the cause of your anger up to now!
You easily get frustrated!
You take drugs or alcohol every time you get angry!
You notice that people stay away from you, or are intimidated by the strength of your emotion every time you get angry!
You experience weakness, stomach ache, or headaches, when you get upset or frustrated.
You hurt other people physically with any objects which happen to be around you when you get angry!
You are extremely offensive to people whom you are angry with!
You feel like getting even with the people who have made you angry,
and people at your office stay away from you!
Your family members and friends suggest that you could have an anger management issue!
Your family, social life and other aspects of your life, are negatively affected because of your rage!
You have considered killing somebody when you get angry, or you have even considered killing yourself when you are angry!
If you are experiencing some or all of these situations, then it is time for you to seek out people who can help you. Remember that anger happens to everybody, but when it gets out of control, it must be taken seriously, and be given enough attention, so as you avoid hurting yourself or others.
If you answered yes to most of these questions, then it is time to seek professional help. Being angry is normal, but being too angry too frequently, to the point where it is ruining your life, is not at all normal.
One tip for you:- Never be ashamed to admit that you have anger management issues! Acceptance would enable you to save yourself from further damage your emotion might inflict.
